Author martin Meadows has crafted a nice, logical and easy-to-follow book in order to overcome procrastination and have better workouts so we can get into great shape. I like the structure of the book and how it starts of with beating your lack of motivation and procrastination. I like the explanation between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and how each has an impact on how we approach exercise. As always with Martin Meadows’ books this book is we’ll-resasertched and backed up with solid case studies that proves the author has authority to write about what he instructs.Oe of my biggest difficulties un the past ten years has been both motivation and finding the time to exercise. Martin covers all of that here and in chapter two offers up good strategies ad tips for carving out the time for getting to the gym or crating a gym at home. By making health a priority we can discipline ourselves to enjoy exercise and drive that motivation to do something about it.Chapter 3, stay motivated to exercise, offers great tips such as:- Don’t think in terms of “all or nothing†on your lazy days.- Keep records of your workouts.- Start a chain in your calendar and cross off days with a big red X- Make your goals Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-boundChapter 4 tackles a big problem for me, especially after tears of training when I hit a plateau and didn’t enjoy exercise anymore. Basically a knock-off "The Power of Habit"Skims the surface of Self-Discipline without going deeper.Large font, 1.5 spacing. The amount of substance in this book could be contained within 20 pages if it were printed with normal font-size and spacing.While the book has a well designed cover, simple structure, it lacks any substance.Martin Meadows essentially copies and pastes between his books.
I realized when I read this book that I hated to exercise because I had never found a sport that I enjoy. So I stopped trying to get up early and go running (which I hate but that everyone recommends doing) and started to think of what I had liked to do in the past. I remembered my fondness of swimming which got me to start to swim again. I now look forward to exercising because I took this book's advice to find something that I enjoy.
This actually got me started on a sustainable long term weight loss journey. I have always loved working out but lacked the actual motivation to begin. I read this book and I often remind myself of the principles. I read this in September 2017 and it’s now April 2018, I have since then lost 35lbs using the concepts of discipline. Very grateful for this book.
Some good tips, but overall there's a lot of "do this," "don't do this," but do what you like, as long as it's rock climbing. Why discourage bike commuting?? Or anything that someone who reads it might find enjoyable. Maybe people like Zumba instead of classic dancing.There are suggestions in there that are very helpful; you just have to wade through the judgments.
Another good and motivating book from Martin Meadows! If you find working out to be a choir, you may view things differently after reading this book. Worth the read.
I've picked up some good tips from this book, especially the tips on habit forming. Left out one star because some of the ideas are common sense, lol.
